Empowering Educators: Enhancing Teacher-Student Relationships through Self-Care
Abstract: | This is the first workshop of the upcoming Teacher-Student Relationships Workshop Series. This workshop focuses on strengthening teacher-student relationships by addressing key factors that influence mental health and well-being in educational settings. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of mental health, including common misconceptions, and will explore self-care practices essential for fostering healthy connections. The session will emphasize how self-care benefits both personal well-being and teacher-student relationships, equipping teachers with strategies to maintain balance and support students effectively. Additionally, the workshop will introduce participants to the Jockey Club TourHeart+ Project, an online mental health self-guided platform and other support services as resources available to assist students and staff experiencing mental health challenges. |

Speaker: | Ms. Ophelia Tam Clinical Psychologist, Jockey Club TourHeart+ Project, Department of Psychology, CUHK Ophelia Tam is a clinical psychologist and a member of the JC TourHeart+ Project. She obtained her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During her studies, she had the opportunity to work with individuals experiencing mental health problems, in both hospital and community settings. She also completed a thesis on developing a brief intervention to promote self-care for improving one’s mental well-being. She now works together with the JC TourHeart+ team to develop online and offline mental health resources with the aim of promoting individuals’ mental well-being and providing needed support to prevent mental health problems. |
