Background

Professor Cecilia Ka Wai Chun obtained her B.A. and Dip. Ed. from CUHK and her Adv. Dip. Ed, M.Ed. and PhD from the University of Hong Kong. Upon graduating from her undergraduate studies, she worked as a schoolteacher of English. Then, she worked as a Teaching Consultant in the Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong. Later, she joined the Faculty of Education of CUHK.

At CUHK, Professor Chun was the co-odinator of two double-degree programmes in English language education. She served as the Associate Dean (Student Affairs), Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) and Director of Undergraduate Studies of the Faculty of Education.

Professor Chun has extensive experience in teacher education, working with teachers of various levels of schooling on local and non-local initial teacher education programmes and continuing professional development programmes.

Professor Chun has been involved in a number of government and Education Bureau committees, for example, Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ), the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and committees and working groups under the Chief Executive Award for Teaching Excellence (CEATE) and Curriculum Development Council. Recently she has been appointed as a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications.

Professor Chun has served as member and subject convenor of the Assessment Panel for Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Self-financing Degree Sector (Research Grants Council) and as an auditor in the Register of Auditor of Quality Assurance Council.

Research

Her research interests include second language reading, using English as a medium of learning, English across the curriculum, academic literacy in a second language, second language teacher education, scholarship of teaching and learning and professional development of teachers in higher education.
