Background

Former secondary school English teacher, Lecturer at the English Department, City University of Hong Kong, and Associate Professor at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Courses taught include Subject Curriculum and Teaching (English), ELT Theory and Methodology, English Language Teaching Techniques, English Curriculum Theory and Design, Morphology and Syntax, Lexis, Morphology and Semantics, ELT Research Methods, Workplace Communication.

At CUHK, Professor Eunice Tang served as Programme Coordinator of Postgraduate Diploma in Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy for English Language Teaching (PGSK for ELT) from 2004 to 2010 and Programme Coordinator of B.A. (English Studies) and B.Ed. (English Language Education) Programme (ELED) from 2012 to 2019.

Professor Tang is an active member of United College. She served as Honorary Warden, Ping Fan Hall for non-residential students, United College from 2010 to 2024. She was also elected as Fellow, Assembly of Fellows, United College and was a committed member of the Committee of General Education at United College, Currently, Professor Tang is coordinating the Language Improvement Project, which is supported by the Senate Committee of Teaching and Learning, as a non-formal education programme for the College students.

Professor Tang has been involved in a number of professional work and community service. She is a reviewer of a few SSCI journals on teacher education, English Language teaching and eLearning. Professor Tang was an External Member of the Language Module Board and Language Advisory Board at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. She was also appointed as member of the Subject Committee (English Language) HKCEE and HKDSE, member of Vetting Committee on Assessment of Language Degree Programmes under SCOLAR’s Requirements, and member / Chair of some Education Bureau Committees.

Professor Tang has extensive experience in teacher education and made contributed significantly to teachers’ professional development. She founded Platform for Teacher Education (PLaTE) in 2007, an online interactive and dialogic environment for teacher learning and professional exchanges. PLaTE provided support and resources for initial teacher education programmes on English Language, Chinese Language, and Mathematics. An online Teaching Portfolio platform and a Community of Practice (CoP) project at PLaTE were launched in 2009 to complement the Teaching Practicums. Professor Tang participates in a wide range of consultancy work for local and non-local teaching communities. Recently, she has been working on projects which involve the applications of GenAI in teaching, learning and assessment.

Research interests include New Technologies in Teaching and Learning, Vocabulary Input and Treatment, English Curriculum and English Teaching in China, Online Teaching Portfolios in a Community of Practice, Reflective Practices in Pre-service English Teacher Education, Technology-enhanced Learning and Teaching, Applications of GenAI in teaching, learning and assessment.
