While teaching a course, an instructor naturally gathers data from their students: marks for individual questions in assignments, in-class quizzes, surveys, data from Learning Management Systems like Blackboard and Moodle and so on. What can we glean from this information and how can it help our teaching? In this workshop we provide some answers, with special regard to assessment, demonstrating some practical quantitative methods that are easily implementable via commonly available software.

Bio:
Dr. John Alexander WRIGHT (衛約翰) is a Senior Lecturer from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). After studying mathematics in the UK and Hong Kong, he joined CUHK's Department of Statistics, where he has taught for over a dozen years. His disciplinary research interests lie in applied probability, especially financial mathematics. In recent years, he has led several teaching grant projects, focussing on the teaching of statistics to different audiences and the training of teaching assistants.
