Introducing IPE within CUHK - Ideas, Instruction, Infrastructure

Background: World Health Organization published the Framework for Action on Inter-professional Education (IPE) and Collaborative Practice a decade ago. IPE is defined as two or more professionals jointly creating a collaborative learning environment to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will result in inter-professional team behaviors1. The workshops are hosted by experts from the Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (CAIPE). CAIPE is one of the leading international IPE organizations which provides trainings for quality education of IPE.

Objectives:
  • To enhance the understanding of structures and processes required to develop interprofessional education
  • To develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required to develop strategies that embed IPE and Interprofessional collaborative practices within an organization
  • To develop a strategic plan to embed IPE within your own context
  • To exchange knowledge, experiences and ideas about the sustainability of quality interprofessional experiences.

Short Bibliography:
Andreas Xyrichis has held clinical, research and policy posts in London and Brussels; and his training has been in nursing, research methodology, health policy and sociology. He holds a BSc, a MSc and a PhD all from King’s. Andreas is passionate about interprofessional healthcare practice, education and research. His work is supported by the National Institute for Health Research and investigates interprofessional practice interventions for patient safety and quality improvement, specifically in the clinical setting of the intensive care unit. Andreas has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK since 2013, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Interprofessional Care since 2015 and a CAIPE Board Member since 2018.

Mrs. Emma Pope
Lecturer of Radiotherapy and Oncology at Cardiff University


Short Bibliography:
Emma Pope is a board member of CIPAE. She is also a member of the higher education academy health-based Problem Based Learning (PBL) special interest group. The group is currently in the process of developing a tool that can be used to assess PBL from varying viewpoints.

  • There will be take-home exercise after the first workshop.
