uReply is a student response system (SRS) and a cloud-based classroom communication tool, which was designed to facilitate classroom interactions using mobile devices. It was developed and launched at the CUHK in 2012. It is well-known for its following characteristics:
Easy to use: Students are allowed to use uReply in their own devices (e.g., smartphone, tablet and notebook) instead of the keypad devices such as “clickers” provided by teachers.
Campus-wide: it supports multiple classes to use it instantaneously in the campus, no matter how big the classes are.
Cross-platform: it works on most of the updated web browsers, and in various digital devices and operating systems.
Cloud-based: it collects instant student’ responses and generates instant reports.
In the coming workshop, our team will share cases of how teachers use it and explore the pedagogical use of uReply, including:
various feasible solutions for pre-class, in-class and after-class activities;
upgraded reports consist of analysis of students’ in-class participation;
pedagogies such as flipped learning, peer learning, and gamification; and
opportunities for teaching and learning outside the classroom
Remarks
Please be noticed that the basic operations of the system will not be covered in this workshop. Hence, guests who have the experiences of using uReply (e.g., experience of creating sessions in uReply) are recommended to participate in this workshop.
